I believe in the kiss principle. Keep it simple stupid. Did you take the fuel filter off first and try blowing through it before you replaced the fuel pump?

I do know older 90′s models ford also had a fuel pump reset button in the rear compartment. Supposedly to shut off the gas flow if it gets into an accident. Sometimes needs to be reset though if the car hits a bump.

With the gas cap off and listening closely to the fill spout, have a friend turn the key to the on position (not crank). You should hear a hum from the fuel pump starting up. If you dont hear anything, check the fuel pump relay under the hood. If its clicking when you turn the key on its working.

Can also have a shop hook up a pressure gauge to the fuel rail. Thatll tell you instantly if the pumps working. I imagine something got disconnected or a faulty new fuel pump. It happens.
